About Us

The UWSLoves relief effort began the Thursday following Hurricane Sandy. A tweet by Monica O’Malley de Castillo trying to set up a donation hub in the UWS brought her together with Mandy Bickerstaff. Over the next three weeks Monica focused on collecting donations and Mandy on cooking and delivering homemade, yummy food to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Friends and strangers in and around the UWS came together to volunteer their time, donate money, and/or donate supplies, which allowed UWSLoves to impact communities in Far Rockaway, Staten Island, Coney Island, the LES, and areas all over Brooklyn.

Feeding Sandy: A Cookbook that Gives Back

We are very excited to introduce our new cookbook, Feeding Sandy: From Heart to Table!  The book contains 54 recipes and stories about the work of UWSLoves.  The book was compiled by Mandy Bickerstaff and designed by Carlos Bido, and we are very proud of it.

The cookbook contains recipes like PB and Nutella Stuffed French Toast, my grandmother’s Peach Cobbler, Roasted Squash Pasta, and Cheese Biscuits.

We want to thank everyone that donated recipes, their time, and money/supply donations, you have all been included in the book (so that’s exciting).

We do want to ask for one more favor. Please help us get the word out to your friends/family.  As the holidays approach, this would be a great gift, and for only $9.99 (you can donate more of course and it’s tax-deductible) it is extremely affordable.  You can buy the book here or on the sidebar.

We continue to work towards providing the means for displaced and impacted families to cook again, all donations are appreciated.

Thank you all again!

Mandy
